Oracy
Oracy is the skill of expressing ideas clearly and understanding others through spoken language. It serves as a crucial tool for learning, empowering our children to better grasp their own identities, connect with peers, and comprehend the world around them.
At Sir Francis Hill Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on the development of oracy, recognising it's fundamental role developing effective communication and achievement across all areas of the curriculum. Good oracy skills support wider literacy skills; improvement in oracy is also linked to improvements in reading, writing and overall attainment.
Our English curriculum is designed to provide students with numerous opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills. Through a variety of engaging activities and discussions, students learn to articulate their thoughts, clearly and listen attentively. We encourage students to express themselves, share their ideas, and respect differing viewpoints, this in turn fosters a supportive and inclusive environment.
