Early Years Learning Environment

SFH School - Early Years Virtual Tour

The Reception Learning Environment

The Reception Unit at Sir Francis Hill Primary School consists of three indoor classrooms: the Grasshopper Classroom, Dragonfly Classroom, and Ladybird Classroom. These classrooms serve as the bases for the three Reception groups at the school. However, throughout the day, the spaces are opened up to create one large Reception Unit, and all the children have access to all three indoor spaces.

In addition to the indoor classrooms, there is a dedicated Snack Area where the children have a roll snack time during their child-initiated play. This area provides a space for the children to have a snack and recharge while engaging in independent play.

The three classrooms are centred around a secure outdoor courtyard area, which is accessible from all the classrooms. This outdoor space allows the children to engage in independent outdoor play and learning. It provides an opportunity for the children to explore and interact with their surroundings.

Furthermore, the school has a larger outdoor area where the children can further explore their environment and develop their physical, imaginative, and social play. This outdoor space offers more room for the children to engage in various activities and encourages their overall development.

Overall, the Reception Unit at Sir Francis Hill Primary School provides a combination of indoor and outdoor spaces that support the children's learning, play, and development.

The Nursery Learning Environment

At Sir Francis Hill Primary School our Early Years includes a large and welcoming Nursery setting. The Nursery has its own dedicated space which was built in 2016 and was renovated in 2024. The learning environment includes a large classroom space, outdoor covered play space and woodland area. The nursery is layout and designed to support the children's transition into our Reception Unit (which is part of our Early Years provision) when they start school full-time the year they turn 5 years old. Our Nursery classroom and outdoor area have a range of play activities designed to offer a fun, safe and stimulating environment for children aged 3 to 4 years old.
