At Sir Francis Hill school we encourage children to read every night for a minimum of 10 minutes.

Accelerated Reader link We encourage children to read at home with an adult for 10 minutes everyday. Children will bring home, library books based on their ZPD (Zone of proximal development). When they have completed reading the book, they can log into Accelerated Reader and quiz on the book. This allows the child and their teacher to check how well they understood the text and to see if they are ready for a more challenging or less challenging book.

Boomreader Boomreader is an online reading checkbook which records how often the children are reading at home with an adult. This platform allows teachers and parents to write comments about how the children read and how many pages they read each night. The platform allows adults to record how many pages the child has read, some comments about how the child read and tick to say the book is completed. Children receive praise and rewards in school for frequently logging books and reading at home.

Timestables Learning timestables is crucial for children as it provides a solid foundation in mathematics. It enhances their ability to solve mathematical problems efficiently, builds confidence in their math skills, and prepares them for more advanced math concepts. These essential multiplication skills are applicable in everyday life. TTRS (Timestable rockstars) is a fun platform we use at SFH school to encourage children to learn and speedily recall timestables. All children have access to log in details and can practice on TTRS website at home as well as at school. The more time children practice, the better their recall accuracy will be. Practicing frequently is great preparation for Year 4, where children will complete a compulsory, government timestables check.
