Homework
Year 5 Homework
Maths & English
In year 5, we will be setting your child weekly maths and English homework using an online learning platform called Atom School. Homework will be set on a Friday and is due in for the following Friday. Your child will shortly be given a username and password, if they haven't received one already. You will also need to set up a Parent Portal in order for your child to complete their homework. Don't worry it is completely free to do but the site does offer other paid products.
How do I set up my Parent Portal?
When your child’s Atom School username and password were created, you may have been sent an email with a magic link that allowed you to set up your Parent Portal. If you didn’t receive a magic link, please email them at support@atomlearning.co.uk.
You can also set up your Parent Portal by logging into your child’s Atom School account. You will be invited to enter your email address and you will then receive a link to activate your Parent Portal.
If you have any issues, please get in touch with one of the year 5 team.
Reading
We recommend that your child reads daily for at least 20 minutes.
Please encourage your child to log their reading book on GoRead (Boom Reader) and then quiz on any book they have read using Accelerated Reader.
Books can then be changed during our weekly library slot.
Check out the 'Top 100 Recommended Reads for Year 5' by The Reader Teacher, if you are not sure what books your child should be reading.
Spellings
You should have received some communication regarding the teaching of spellings at the beginning of the year. If you would like to support your child with their weekly spellings at home, the spelling words are below. You will also find the Bronze, Silver and Gold spelling words below. Can they spell all of these words before the end of KS2?
Topic
Under the ‘Dynamic Dynasties’ tab, you will find some home learning tasks linked to our topic. These are not compulsory but are there to encourage your children to continue their topic learning outside of the classroom.
