Personal Development

Personal Development

At our school, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing all pupils with a rich and inclusive experience that nurtures curiosity, celebrates diversity, and equips children with the knowledge, values and skills they need to thrive as respectful and responsible citizens.

This work is driven by our School Development Priority to deliver a broad and enriching cultural capital offer, ensuring that every child, from Nursery to Year 6, benefits from meaningful opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

A Rich and Diverse Cultural Capital Offer

We are proud of the significant progress made in broadening pupils’ experiences. Our curriculum is enhanced through a wide range of carefully planned opportunities that support pupils’ personal growth and understanding of the wider world.

Outdoor learning plays a key role in this provision. Forest School is embedded across all year groups, helping pupils to develop confidence, resilience and a strong connection to nature. These sessions are highly valued by both pupils and staff and have a positive impact on wellbeing and engagement.

Educational visits and residential experiences are thoughtfully planned to build progressively across the school. From early experiences such as visits to farms, through to residential stays and cultural visits in later years, pupils gain valuable social, cultural and life experiences. Visits to places of worship and local landmarks further deepen pupils’ understanding of different communities and beliefs.

Creative and performing arts are also a strength. Pupils take part in a variety of musical and dramatic opportunities, including large-scale performances, festivals and school productions. These experiences build confidence, teamwork and a sense of achievement.

Enriching Learning Beyond the Classroom

We enhance the curriculum through high-quality trips, workshops and extra-curricular activities that inspire curiosity and bring learning to life.

Pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences linked directly to their studies, including historical visits, science workshops and hands-on learning opportunities. Specialist workshops, such as themed history days and interactive science experiences, deepen understanding and engagement.

In addition, we provide workshops that support pupils’ personal, social and health education. These include age-appropriate sessions on relationships, personal safety and making responsible choices, ensuring pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Promoting British Values

British Values are fully embedded in school life and are actively promoted through assemblies, lessons and wider school experiences. Pupils develop a strong understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.

Regular assemblies and discussions encourage pupils to reflect on current events and moral issues, helping them to develop their own views while respecting those of others. Whole-school events, such as Remembrance activities, provide meaningful opportunities for reflection and understanding.

Celebrating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Inclusivity is central to our school ethos. Through our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) calendar, pupils learn about and celebrate a wide range of cultural, religious and social events throughout the year.

This approach ensures that all pupils feel valued and represented, while also developing respect, empathy and an understanding of the diverse world in which they live.

Developing Pupil Leadership

We actively encourage pupils to take on leadership roles and contribute to school life. Opportunities such as School Council, House Captains, Playground Leaders and Eco Leaders enable pupils to develop confidence, responsibility and teamwork skills.

Through these roles, pupils have a voice in decision-making, support their peers and play an active role in shaping the school community.

Living Our Values: Wisdom, Community and Kindness

Our core values of Wisdom, Community and Kindness underpin all aspects of school life. They are promoted through assemblies, modelled by staff and embedded in daily interactions.

These values guide pupils in making positive choices, building strong relationships and contributing to a supportive and respectful school environment.

Strong Community and Parental Partnerships

We recognise the importance of working closely with families and the wider community. Parents are encouraged to engage with school life through workshops, classroom activities and educational visits.

Events such as craft workshops and shared reading sessions provide meaningful opportunities for families to learn alongside their children. We also offer support for parents through wellbeing workshops, helping them to support their children’s development at home.

Our strong community links, including partnerships with local organisations and charities, further enrich pupils’ experiences and foster a sense of belonging and social responsibility.

Preparing Pupils for the Future

Through our comprehensive personal development offer, pupils leave our school as confident, respectful and well-rounded individuals. They are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values needed to succeed in the next stage of their education and to make a positive contribution to society.
