Year 5

Year 5

Dear Year 5 Community,

As school has now closed, we want to assure you that Year 5 staff will continue to be available (through email) for you during normal school working hours, to assist with any home learning issues you may have. Please remember that you can contact any of us using the Teacher Contact Facility shown on the Year 5 screen (just below.)

We have already sent home learning packs to get you and your children started, and will be adding suggested work ideas using this page regularly.

As an addition to these activities we have added daily links for Maths, English (just click the link below) and also please make use of all our online learning platforms (Sumdog, TT Rockstars, Numbots, Spelling Shed and Abacus maths). If you have misplaced your child’s login for any of these sites or have difficulty accessing them, again please contact us using the Teacher Contact Facility (below)

This is new territory for all of us, but we shall try to support you and your child as much as we can so the disruption to their education is minimised. We cannot stress the importance of staying in touch with each other (friends) through any means possible, as this is so important to your children’s well being.

Keep safe and well

With Thanks

Year 5 Teachers Contact Form

If you are wanting to contact a specific teacher within the year group, please make this clear in your message - e.g. For the attention of Mr Smith.

Please click on any of the links below to see what we are learning in each topic.

Literacy

In Literacy this term we are looking at persuasive letter and fiction. Throughout each unit we will work on understanding the structural features of the text ( using the Talk for writing process - imitation, innovation, creation), as well as the vocabulary and sentence structure we need. We are working hard to edit and improve our work; this is achieved through DIRT (Dedicated Improvement Reflective Time) tasks.

We also have regular reading workshop tasks using DIAL and BUG (deductive, inference, authorial, literal questioning), and sessions which focus on various text types so we can become enthusiastic and confident readers. Please continue to read and discuss reading regularly, remember to quiz as soon as possible after you have read a book. The library is open for quizzing before school, lunchtime and after school.

We worked in groups with Steve Smailes, a freelance photographer, to create Stop Motion animations using food as a link to Lincolnshire Day.
