Book Week 2025 – Inspiring Visit from Former Teacher Tom Keenan

During Book Week 2025, we were delighted to welcome back one of our former teachers, Mr. Tom Keenan. Now working as Schools Manager for Lincoln City Football Club, Tom oversees the club’s primary school delivery programme. Before joining us at Sir Francis Hill, he had the incredible opportunity to work in Cambodia, where he formed and coached a youth football team for his village.

It was during this time that Tom met a young boy named Vong, whose unwavering determination to walk for hours just to be part of the team deeply inspired him. So much so, that he chose to share Vong’s incredible journey by writing a book about his adventure. When published in 2018, Tom’s book became an Amazon bestseller.

The children were captivated by Tom’s storytelling and fascinated by his experiences. His visit highlighted that storytelling is for everyone—regardless of background or profession. Tom’s journey showed our pupils that anyone with a story to tell has the power to write, share, and even publish their own book. A truly inspiring visit!
